1 year agoThat’s an absolutely ridiculous stance, Kyrie Irving was hands down, by a mile, more important than Kevin Love in bringing the only title in the history of the Cavs franchise, ending a 50-year drought for the city of Cleveland. Not only that, he also hit the shot that basically won the series in an epic comeback, if he doesn’t get his jersey retired, then nobody should.
That’s not even mentioning some of the players that have their jerseys retired by the Cavs, it would be an absolute joke if Kyrie didn’t have his.
That’s like comparing apples to oranges, there’s a significant difference between Kevin Durant and Vince Carter as players and there’s also a significant difference between the ways they left their franchises. Vince Carter’s greatest accomplishment as a Raptor was getting outplayed by Allen Iverson in a 2nd round series, Kevin Durant led the Thunder to an NBA Finals and many WCF appearances, he made them relevant by himself and they have been irrelevant since he left.
VC was also in contract and demanded a trade while having led the Raptors to nothingness after 2001, beefing with the entire organization in the process, being accused of not trying and telling opponents the Raptors plays. On the other hand, KD simply left in FA, he was free to do whatever he wanted and he did it, he had no obligations to the Thunder after 9 years of excellence and he didn’t misbehave in any way while being part of the Thunder organization.
