At the very least, it’s a convenient indicator to know when you should avoid returning to that business.

HistoryPhotos@piefed.social•Atlanta Boy’s High School basketball player shooting a free throw against Tech High School in 1921English
3·19 days agoA “normal” free throw shot is still taken differently since basically no player takes it as a jumpshot. A lot of the time their release is also a bit different.
Free throws are very high value shots and are worth getting good at. The reason people like Rick Barry endorse this method is the motion has fewer chances for variability; there’s less room to slightly change your shooting motion because of the mechanics.
You are correct however that the most important point is what is most practiced. Most players don’t want to risk changing things up significantly by the time they reach the pros. Though the ones who shoot FTs very poorly absolutely should try.

Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•Apparently, LLMs are so popular among incompetent managers because they have a lot in common. The logical conclusion would be to replace these managers with LLMs instead of laying off experts.
6·25 days agoI have observed a strong correlation between managers whose emails are now obviously written by AI and those who have significant shortcomings.

Unpopular Opinion@lemmy.world•Protesting needs to evolveEnglish
7·27 days agoI agree that there are further, more specific methods of protest required to enact change.
The US does need protests like No Kings for several reasons. It helps to foster solidarity and community, to make people feel like they are not alone and have many neighbors who feel the same way they do. It helps to make a large group of potentially politically activated citizens accessible to activist groups. It helps to provide an opportunity for exposing attendees to more than the prevailing narratives in the news and social media they consume. And it’s just practice; protesting gets easier the more you do it.

33·2 months agoArguing the care wasn’t covered because the baby wasn’t named in the insurance despite explicitly covering pregnancy-related care is ghoulish behavior. I can’t fathom how you can argue that seriously and not feel like a piece of shit.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What tourist destinations do you think are NOT overrated?
7·2 months agoIt’s one of those places where you go and say, “oh okay I get it. This is incredible.” Pictures don’t do it justice. The physicality of being next to it is hard to describe.

1·3 months agoNever Not Funny can be accurately described as, after you get into it, listening to old friends shoot the shit. It will also introduce you to a lot of very funny comedians, many of whom are not super mainstream. Further, it’s been constantly running for 20 years, so you will not run out of content anytime soon.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Is there anything like church without the church?English
7·3 months agoIf you are willing to risk a financially debilitating addiction to cardboard or minis, your local game store could fill that role. I have jokingly referred to my usually-weekly visit to my LGS as “nerd church,” complete with the tithe of a few booster packs. You have to get lucky though because the quality of community can vary wildly. I am fortunate in that regard.

It’s perfectly fine if you maintain your cutting board properly. In that case it is safer than plastic.

News@lemmy.world•More 'No Kings' protests planned for March 28 as outrage spreads over Minneapolis deaths
3·3 months agoThe last one I went to also. There was a dedicated section along the march route where a local pro-Palestine group was set up. There were speakers after the march, one of which was representing that group as well. A few other speakers also recognized them to much applause.
Perhaps some specific local chapters decided to sweep this issue under the rug, or perhaps the one local to me ignored a directive to do so.

2·3 months agoAgreed. I’ve been the one giving a lot of interviews. I’m a little concerned when people don’t ask these sort of questions and tend to volunteer answers in that case. Any company with this attitude is an absolute joke and a total dumpster fire.

2·3 months agoThis sounds great in theory, but I can assure you it will just result in either boilerplate or ai generated explanations. The work of putting that together is just going to get thrust on already overworked people who are dragged into panel interviews so managers don’t have to deal with it.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•How can we convince Trump voters to NOT vote for Trump (or Vance) in the 2026 midterms and the 2028 election?
6·3 months agoI’m not sure it’s worth putting a ton of energy into trying to convince Trump voters. Many of them only come to their senses once they are personally affected by his policies.
There needs to be focus on turning out the majority of Americans who dislike Trump. That has to be done with exciting candidates who focus on our systemic problems and actually want to change things. There’s no amount of window dressing and virtue signaling you can hang on corporatists to make people enthusiastic. They must want to vote for the candidate, not just find them more tolerable.
