i started the blind forest on my LCD last week just to see how much even an SDR 2D game would benefit from OLED and it’s unbelievable how night and day it is.

Another game that looks great that runs at nearly 90fps on high with HDR is Forza Horizon 4, been playing it like crazy and the skybox looks insane in HDR, i’ve never seen clouds pop out the neon white they are in real life except in maybe some iPhone HDR videos, really mind blowing.

Having problems with mine too on my new Hisense TV. Two HDMI ports will input 120fps just fine, but won’t accept an audio or HDR signal from the deck…? if i use one of the “normal” HDMI ports (not listed for gaming) HDR enables just fine but i’m limited to 4k60 with zero option for higher refresh rates even at lower resolutions.

What’s odd is that my macbook outputs HDR on any port, and 120hz, even on the “60hz” HDMI ports. idk what’s up but it might be a bad implementation on Valve’s end and not the TVs themselves.

yes, replace it. probably a defective panel or the ribbon cable it’s connected to got disconnected in shipping or was just plain never installed correctly.

As of now, Forza seems be the best showcase as microsoft historically implements HDR perfectly since it’s their own pipeline on windows. Horizon 4 and 5 both look and play wonderfully

just search cyberpunk HDR test on YouTube, it’s been known that the implementation of HDR in cyberpunk does nothing more than really raise the gamma for the entire image, resulting in it looking washed out. Generally, the consensus is just keep it in SDR.

first off posting the box art really ain’t helping us, we know what forza is. second off, you’re being extremely vague and not giving us any info other than “online isn’t working”. did you sign in to microsoft? are you on wifi? did you restart the deck? did you try desktop mode? these are all steps you be taking to narrow the issue down.

i’ve literally never gotten that plugin to works correctly once, no matter which computer i try to read the data from. idk if valve is blocking it or what

Just to chime in here a little later, there’s still no way to stream HDR content to linux right? Moonlight hasn’t been updated to support vulkan yet and steam remote play is all over the place broken… did you find any way to do it?

Very odd that this issue has persisted this long. This has been happening with remote play since the first betas of 3.5, very annoying. only workaround is by going into desktop mode. it either has to do with the HDR pipeline being maybe tested with remote play poorly and never got fixed, or it’s because of the new calibration for the LCD.

as for emu deck, you probably need to install it first then set everything up, just to be safe. that’s what’s recommended unfortunately. i would say just download your roms and start organizing now so it’s as easy as possible to import later.

if it’s just you and him, It Takes Two is really fun and was one of the first games i played on the deck when i got it, extremely fond memories.

if doing PC things and playing esports titles isn’t your thing, then sure, you’ll love the deck.

that said, your pc is still more powerful than the steam deck, especially at 1080p. if you can afford getting a refurbished 64gb steam deck, your pc can be used as a relatively good in-home game-streaming box for running games at 800p.

The value has nothing to do with the email system, lol. I’ve bought Apple products before and failed to receive email confirmation of my receipts, it happens. This is why valve gives you the option to save the receipt as a PDF, and why it’s also on your Steam account. My receipt took like 2 days to finally get emailed to me on Saturday for some reason.

No, i don’t regret it. I’m part of the few people that built a gaming PC just as a gaming box, I do all of my work on Linux and macOS. I mainly use my PC as a console for counterstrike, and mainly, when i got my Deck, streaming games in home to the deck in bed. Look into Moonlight, it’s fucking awesome.

not only did it NOT make me regret buying a steam deck, i went out and upgraded my pc’s CPU and GPU just for AV1 encoding to the deck lol, and upgrading to the steam deck OLED now still costs way less than buying an OLED monitor for my desk.

it’s telling you that you have one shell instance running. it’s just so you don’t get mixed up between multiple windows

the HDR visualization is literally a tiling little graph that pops up in the bottom right corner to show you metadata about the HDR content you’re viewing. There is no best setting, it’s a tool to measure HDR output and each one does something differently.
