For some reason, Guardiola plays him on the left instead of on the right; typically, Pep would place him where he could cut in and shoot on his stronger foot. But not with Phil (as with Jesus).
He’s had a rotten run of injuries for one. Second, when Chelsea was flying not-too-long ago, it was because he and Chilwell simultaneously had the run of their flanks. Cucarella is not Chilwell and so the team’s balance is off, further hampered by the team’s average age plummeting and having few experienced players around him.
