Exact same thing happened in the Premier League when Giggs won player of the year in 2009.

He some how won the award and only started league 12 games, and definitely was not the best player that season.

It was clearly a ‘he’s been top quality for a long time but never the best’ pity award.

No denying he was very very good for a long time but he didn’t deserve the award in 2009.
