Ghost Trick is the obvious similar sorta game on the same system. I certainly preferred Ghost Trick to Hotel Dusk, but Hotel Dusk is still quite good.

What video games have you played recently?
Almost done with Hotel Dusk: Room 215. It’s a pretty solid crime thriller, and does a bunch of weird shit with the DS’s features that I appreciate. Hoping to work my way through more of that developer’s games at some point.
What game have you completed recently and what are your thoughts on it?
I just finished Clannad and that game is much worse than its reputation would suggest. So much of the “humor” (actually just straight up homophobia) has aged like milk, most of the routes feel like wastes of time because they don’t do a great job tying back to the overall themes, and even After Story itself, supposedly the good part, constantly fumbles any chance at interesting character developments so we can get on to the next sad thing. It’s honestly a prime example of how conservatives can’t make good art.
What are your favorite video game genres?
Visual Novels, and any games that are heavy on reading.

Is it theft to charge any other device at a holiday house? No, of course not. That’s ridiculous.

A Light in the Dark:
This game is weird. It’s one of those that feels like it has its heart in kind of the right place politically, but it really doesn’t put together a satisfying narrative with that. It takes people suffering under capitalism and when it wants to give them a happy ending free of the crushing weight of debt, and it kinda just snaps its fingers and says everything will be fine.
Flowers: Le Volume sur Automne:
Done with 3/4 of this series. This one is worse than 2 but better than 1. They frankly just don’t develop the main love interest and all the plot lines surrounding her hit extremely weakly. There’s another direction I think it would have been stronger if it took, but that’s just not what the writer did. Pretty sure this whole saga is gonna be me wasting another 80 hours on something mid at best and reprehensible at worst.
Eden*:
kind of a nothingburger of a game. I feel silly for trying to do any kind of analysis of this game’s politics, because it doesn’t care enough to expand on the setting enough to have much of anything to analyze. It wants to be a cute love story and that’s all it gives you, and it does that ok I guess. (also the main love interest is 100 and looks about 12 which I wish we as a species would stop doing)
Just picked up Hi-Fi Rush and some other games I’ve been wanting in the last Humble Bundle so that’ll be for next time.
Visual novels, as is pretty self evident, although I’ll take anything heavy on narrative. (I, like most of this website, really like Disco Elysium)
I no longer play live service games. 10 year WoW vet, and I just don’t have it in me for online multiplayer with strangers.
