  • Nuggets continuity with their core group is beautiful, best starting group in the NBA. The search for bench players among the young guys continues, but if the starters are playing like that you need just so, so little from them to be favourites in the playoffs.

Lakers are going to struggle to go further than their guards. I maintain losing Dennis Schroder was a real loss, but you could get past that with some of Austin Reaves, D’Angelo Russell and Gabe Vincent hitting - especially against the Nuggets because they do not respect D’Angelo Russell and think Austin Reaves is a free meal. I don’t think this game could go much differently without some of those guys having better games. That said, Taurean Prince fitting this well is nice.

  • Stay shit, Ringer.

For a well established journalist in NBA media this doesn’t justify a paycheck on its own credit. Getting the news that Giannis has (very unexpectantly) extended a year earlier than initially people thought made sense, the outline of the reasons being the potential earnings it brings out of staying in Milwaukee for another ten years, should warrant a second look at the prevailing story.

Another piece with nothing but comparisons to KD (that are both completely unearned in that their position and history with their teams are dramatically different, and they are very clearly different people with different priorities). Another piece talking about how superstars sign contracts and request trades, as if that has not been two articles from every outlet for every week until they were blindsided by the extension. A stubborn refusal (or inability) to entertain the case of Giannis’ future remaining in Milwaukee is expected of the usual cast of people yelling on TV, but ‘serious’ media and journalists who actually write have done a miserably poor job of talking about this team outside of one very basic track.

It shouldn’t have been news to so many people that Giannis was repeatedly saying that he wanted to stay as long as the team was trying to win games. It shouldn’t have been news that the Bucks could actually put a competitive package together for trades (especially, were it not for the Dame trade, at the end of this season where there would have been three first round picks and a host of young players and role players on good contracts). Certain figures in NBA media who trade on being sensible, serious, and intelligent do a very poor job of talking about superstars outside of a handful of markets and should just not be taken seriously on those subjects. Now back to ‘Is Anthony Edwards going to leave Minnesota?’ all off the back of Pat Bev imagining it off a podcast.
