the thing about Ferrari is they are a sports team that makes money from the merchandise store that sells branded goods, and it just turns out their merchandise store happens to sell Ferrari branded cars. But because of the motorsport connection I think there will always be pressure to make the cars somewhat connected to the motorsports side, and since they are using v6s in motorsports right now, you end up with the hypercar using a v6 as well. Of course I suspect in the future Ferrari will release a parts bin special where they take the hypercar chassis, give it some vintage inspired bodywork and put in a regular v12, and then charge $$$ for it.

this reminds me of like a decade ago where Ferrari made it so a new Ferrari came with 7 years of free maintenance. Of course they also slightly jacked up the price, but as you can tell from their yearly sales growth this strategy has worked well for selling more and more cars. I wouldn’t be surprised if a similar strategy exists for EVs where you could offer say like X years free charging but jack up the prices and somehow psychologically it feels cheaper to the customer so they end up buying more.

Would be cool if Ford does what it does in China, which is opening dedicated Ford EV stores, but imma guess that’s probably not happening in the states

i thought everyone was expecting the new hypercar to be the CLK-GTR version of the CLR (aka 499p), so the main thing is a slightly nicer/wider interior and thus less wide door sills found on the race cars

Ironically the CATL plant in Michigan was gonna allow unions and even had UAW support because of that but Ford seems to want to cancel it

Given VW bought part of XPeng and plans to use the Xpeng G9 platform in some upcoming model for 2026 and that the the new International Harvester Scout is coming in 2026, I wonder if this means the Scout is gonna be using the Xpeng platform

i mean the way VW worded this press release, they seem to imply their EVs for sale in China are not price competitive cause they use too many non chinese parts, but in China right now VW EVs are like 33kusd for the ID.7 and the ID.4/5 and 3 are way cheaper than those, so affordable VW EVs already exist just not for europeans

BMW had purely mechanical ECUs in the 30s, though I think most would prefer computer chips

sure it helps performance but i feel like these bolted on wings really ruin the look of the car. At least make it like the F40 or the FXX k evo where it is more integrated
