Just to add to what others are saying, I live in canada, where we have to drive with gloves. All meaningful controls need to be chunky physical features.

Not The Onion@lemmy.world•GameStop CEO Says Games Are "Irrelevant" To Company RevenueEnglish
4·7 hours agoIt’s such a controversial opinion, but outside of playable games etc… people are basically buying (with ‘collectibles’) the equivalent of bacon and eggs arranged in a happy face to make a kid giggle. What the fuck are people doing with their lives where they need to have a picture of some cartoon character or a bobblehead of it?
I will confess that I had to stop reading a few sentences down because you’re underlying argumentation is specious at best.
Creating content that sexualizes children… hurts children & it puts children at risk, and as we see here within the comment section, it creates a completely unhealthy normalization of a freak-like interest. There’s no argument around that - there simply is not.

10·3 days agoMeanwhile in 2003 I contacted our it department to report that one of the PCs in our area literally lit on fire. I had watched it with my own eyes, and the smoke was in the air. PSU go poof. The techs came, took a look at it, said yeah we see no problem, left and closed the ticket.
So idiots are literally everywhere that’s the moral of the story I guess.

1·5 days agoOh it’s already doing that at least in my region! Make a basic inquiry on something to do with technical specs of a receiver or something like that… I literally have to ignore the first several responses, chastise the AI and say stop fucking suggesting products to me and just give me my answer… Then it will buckle … oh yes of course let me provide the thing you asked in the first place!!

151·10 days agoI’ve been out of the game for 10 years, but I developed professionally, some very high level shit…
I’ve done tons of business analysis and all that baloney
This AI fucking bullshit is going to present the greatest financial opportunity ever seen by individuals who are competent at programming and can do it without AI
Now is the time to see the opportunity, buckle down, and start finding ways to create solutions and products that solve the problems AI makes
This whole situation is complete bullshit, I’m not trying to be forgiving towards it. But those who are truly rock star developers and know what they’re doing, can become millionaires with some hard work
In some ways I wish I didn’t intentionally walk away from technology 10 years ago… My skills have lapsed to the point that they’re not relevant anymore beyond the core skills… But if I was still remotely in the game, I would be looking for any business opportunity where I can improve the output of companies that have shot themselves in the foot
The reaper is going to come calling for the companies that went all in on this… Just wait 6 more months man (or person) and watch the fallout

4·10 days agoI used to work in online promotions, things like collect and win, enter a code to win an xbox, that type of jazz…
It’s not that the local deletion can’t take place immediately… It’s that they have to legally cover their asses because there’s a whole chain of backups, mirrors, scheduled things blah blah… It literally might take that long for all of the changes to propagate through the full system.
Usually once you unsubscribe, you’re added to the unsubscribe list, and then the local deletion happens with the nightly Cron job. It really is almost done immediately but they just legally cover their rear ends from that point forward because there is a chance it does linger somewhere within the greater system
I’m not going into all the technicalities but that’s the basic reason

In my city, we had given a tax amnesty to the railroads that lapsed 20 years ago or so. What did the city do? Renewed the amnesty for another 50 years.
So we have valuable land that is Criss crossing our city, and the taxpayer now has to build monumental amounts of infrastructure to circumvent.
We build overpasses, underpasses, special crossings.
Our city just dropped 300 million for a bridge that runs over stockyards. We’re redoing the one of several blocks away to the tune of another 200 million this year.
There were several underpasses put in in The last 5 years that totaled up to 400 million.
No, let’s not kick these useless freight trains out of our city, let’s let them keep using it as a parking lot. Now let’s build an additional 2 billion dollars worth of infrastructure for the rapid transit system which did not exist and we are desperately trying implement in a city that has no land because of mismanagement. Oh yeah, don’t boot the trains out and use that land for rapid transit, let’s give them a tax amnesty so they can park trains all day. Not one fucking thing is shipped within the city and there’s no reason for them to exist here.
When I used to drink, 11 years sober, you would not talk to me about trains cuz I would go for hours haha
