Here let me fix the headline for you:

There. That way people won’t get the wrong impression, like that any of this fucking matters.

As humans, our eyes contain 3 different types of cones (red, blue, and green). With these we can see around 1 million different colors.
But Mantis Shrimp have 16 different types of cones in their eyes! And with those 16 cones they can see a whopping… 16 colors.
While our brains allow us to mix and match the different bands of light our eyes detect in order to “see” a wide variety of colors, Mantis Shrimp lack that ability. What they detect is what they get, there’s no neural post processing, or at least not any that allow the perception of mixed colors.
Probably in the top 10% of fun animal facts people like to share, so I’m pretty sure plenty of people told you about it.
Slippery Slope Fallacy.
There seems to be a large religious figure missing from this image… I wonder why that is?
“Safety Protocols Off”
What the fuck? Why is that an option through a vocal command?! If it’s really needed, that should require someone from engineering to make the adjustment and it better be for a damn good reason, not just “I wanna experience real danger”. With the amount of issues that come from Holodeck malfunctions, it’s insane that Star Fleet allows them at all, especially because they seem to fail quite often in their hands.
Seriously, Quark has a better safety record than Star Fleet when it comes to those. His holodecks have only had ONE major incident (Our Man Bashir) and even then it could be argued that the holodeck saved the crew by injecting their patterns into the program when they would have otherwise been entirely lost. Compare that to the Enterprise or Voyager where they have a Holodeck disaster every other week, often self-inflicted.

How are the dangers of illegally entering a country in any way the problem of said country? Like, if someone was trying to break into your house through a back window and wound up stepping into a nest of ground hornets, no one would say it’s your responsibility to make sure the non-path to your back window is free of hazards. Does it really need to be stated that countries are under no obligation to ensure illegal routes across their borders are safe?
If they go the route of TX and actively make the area more dangerous, that’s an entirely different story. But it’s the US/Canada border. In winter. It gets cold. If your strategy for entering a country involves standing outside in Sub-Zero temperatures with inadequate clothing… You need a different strategy.
I’m still baffled at the logo redesign to what looks like a butthole. Like, you’re telling me NO ONE on the design team watched Community?
That’s the thing about the “fuck cars, everyone should switch to bicycles” mindset. For most cities, especially in the US, it’s just not safe yet.
You can say that if more people rode, or bike friendly infrastructure was put in place, then it’d be safer, but it’s just not safe yet.
You can say it’s more healthy than cars and doesn’t take as much time or energy as people think, especially with e-bikes; but it’s just not safe yet.
After seeing my 3rd friend in Seattle (supposedly a fairly “bike friendly” city) get hit by a car and need to be hospitalized, I decided biking is not for me and may never be. Since then, 2 more friends have gotten in accidents. I don’t exactly have a large group of friends and if you widdle that down to friends who predominantly bike as their method of transportation, I’m looking at over a 60% accident rate for bikers I know.
It’s just not safe yet.
I mean, most photo editing software these days could get rid of those in literally 1 second. Hell, the default photos app in my phone can natively do it. This is as much a deterrent as keeping a door closed with zip ties.
Meanwhile Ravenclaw had Cho Chang and… Uh… Hmm…
Oh yea! I forgot about that one! It’s starting to be used a lot in implantable medical devices to generate a small current. There was also that thing a few years back that was trying to use it to generate power from waves/tides; not sure if that actually got past the proof-of-concept stage though.
The only truly new method of power generation we’ve made in the last 100 years has been photovoltaic cells. Everything else is just finding new ways to make turbines spin.
Political echo chambers have been in “Two Minutes of Hate” mode for years now. Throw every insult imaginable at your opponents. Even if it doesn’t fit, even if it doesn’t make sense. Just hold someone up and go “This is the bad man! Boo the bad man! Boooooo!” Anyone who cares ask “Why are we booing? And what makes this man bad?” Is immediately silenced by others because it’s just so obvious he’s a bad man. Look at all the other people booing him!
Meanwhile his face is digitally changed to a bleating goat, and the people cheer.
This happens on both right and left wing echo chambers.

If enough erosion or earthquakes occured to expose the entrance, I don’t think a sign would fare too well.
Not for 100 years. The people ruining things don’t care, it won’t be their mess to clean up.
Your downvotes speak volumes
In the episodes of TNG that look at their near future, Geordi has his eyes fixed, or at least has realistic implants that allow him to see normally. Why would he do it if there’s no point? Is he stupid?
