Yeah, I wouldn’t be getting that, so probably your oil control rings are worn out on the pistons, it’s possible a set of rings and a hone might fix it but nobody could tell without stripping and measuring and looking to see what needs doing, you’d also want the head overhauled too, like they say a new engines the best answer unless you can strip and repair your current one yourself to avoid labour charges.
Dual mass flywheel I think has failed. Can’t say anything else because I’m not there to check out any further, go to a decent shop and get them to listen. Gearbox out to repair, shouldn’t be too bad cost wise (not in the UK anyway, USA seems to be rip off prices).
Generally the old engine goes back to the engine remanufacturer it’s part of the deal and they charge a surcharge until they get it back.
Just get it done, generally cracks appear in the cast iron part of the turbo around the turbine, nobody could say with certainty if this would last a while or cause a catastrophic fail in the near future, it won’t be a cheap job.
He does what I do, it can stop a lot of messing about come spring with clogged up carbs and the like.
Some vehicles turn off the fueling to a misfiring cylinder, Some BMW is one I can think of and also some Peugeots.
It’s not terrible also it’s not just fit it, it has to be coded and stuff too.
It can only be static electricity, 12 volts can not give you any sort of shock unless it’s via a coil.
Suspect charging system failure, check the auxiliary belt is intact firstly, if it’s ok then you may have an alternator failure, all the issues you describe sound like flat battery type things.
As a tech of 40 years I am confused by replacing the ring lands? anybody got an explanation as to how one does this? to my mind they are part of the piston between the ring seats.
You need a small workshop that employs decent talented guys without the eye watering costs and lies, I work in such a place in the UK, we get some very big, hard jobs and we suck them up gladly, our actual labour rate is a third of the price of the dealers, we never advertise, never have done, we have a one month lead time permanently, unless it’s a regular customer in an emergency situation. Some of our work comes from other repair shops who are scared of the big technical jobs and lack the tech talent.
That’s a sign that they have to invent work to stay busy, a decent tech team stays busy because they do good work and the jobs keep coming in without needing to do this, everyone wants value for money, that means good work at a reasonable price = return custom.
They can’t attract decent techs, the working conditions are usually toxic, and a lot of them don’t pay enough to keep the decent guys, this isn’t all, there will be some that aren’t owned by large groups (who invariably are the profits only vultures), that will retain talented staff by looking after them.

Does seem cool and the gauge behaviour backs up your theory, first thing I would look at.
The pro workshop solution would be replace gearbox and bearing, the at home best cheap solution would be strip box and replace shaft and seals and bearing, the at home machinist solution would be remove shaft, weld damage and lathe back to size, new bearing and gearbox seals.
The utter bodger would not strip the box at all, but build up the damage with a welder, put the gearbox into top gear and have a mate spin the box from the output whilst you angle grind the weld back to an approximate diameter that fits a new spigot bearing, of course I have never done this. :-)
Always belt and braces it, if you are removing wheels stack them under the sills as a just in case, even bricks if you have to, wood blocks are better if it’s to hand.
Pistons usually survive a valve clash, pull the head, fit new valves, a decent gasket set and a decent chain kit, job done.
Seems a lot, is the part really expensive? a repair like this would typically take an hour to hour and a half.
I work in a repair shop and we will do head gaskets, a lot of others won’t though because liability, in some rare cases the repair fails, we have had a few fail, and it turns out the issue is a hidden crack or something, of course then the customer is angry and it all goes sour because we don’t have xray vision and sending out for crack and pressure testing is expensive.
This is why they don’t want to get involved, selling an engine with a warranty protects them.
