  • There needs to be a pundits licence, likes the way there is a coaches licence.

Most of them do not actually understand the laws of the game or the guidelines given to the refs to administer during games. Pundits will see a decision that they don’t like and say its wrong. When the referee actually did the correct thing, as per guidelines. This undermines everything that they are doing and deflects from the fact that the laws are inadequate and referee’s have too many guidelines to adhere to. But that’s the problem when you have people complaining about consistency.

You cannot have consistency and common sense. When one man’s handball/foul, is another man’s "play on’.

  • I am solidly of the opinion that there shouldn’t be such a thing as a good yellow card or a good foul. I can’t think of any other sport where you can benefit from committing an infringement (potentially basketball).

Having a dangerous counter attack and being cut down 40 yards from goal isn’t much use to the attacking team. A yellow card and a free kick 40 yards out is pretty useless.

I think either a sin-bin, or a free kick from the position of attacking teams choice is the best option.

Or to be really out there, an indirect free kick from the penalty spot? Defenders can get behind the ball too.

  • It’s a narrative for a season that will probably be defined by Man City walking their umpteenth win.

Sky always tries to portray themselves on the side of the fan. They’ve been constantly on about owners at all levels because who the hell cares about rich people, but we can of course relate to the football fan.

They did it during the Super League debacle even though it was nothing to do with the will of the fans, it was that they do not have the rights to it and their business would have went under.
