Same here. Income fluctuates widely. Not because of my occupation. But because of my penchant for changing jobs to get a small increase, only to find the new employer is a train wreck. Being a train wreck myself, it takes one to know one.
I guess I’m sort of hoping Fisker has a good run. That Ocean model looks quite practical, but still having some really nice features. Price is reasonable for what it is.
Not sure though. If global economy tightens up more, the first ones out the door will be the made to order, startup EV companies.
Perhaps that’s part of the strategy with battery improvement. Do it slooooowwwwwly, so as not to take away from what has already been produced and sold.
When I drive in my business area, north of Atlanta, GA, the sheer numbers of Taycans (more Tesla Model Y’s) are staggering.
A lot of people bought cars in 2020-2022. We pulled a TON of demand forward, largely just because money was cheap.
Now, it’s not. And costs of everything else are now so much higher, I don’t think the American consumer is looking to upgrade their cars again for a while.
But people were offering over-MSRP on them just 1 to 2, short years ago. Could not pay enough in order to be the first.
Good God, this stuff is becoming so predictable that it’s boring now.
It’s endemic to how they are sold and what they just are: mechanical devices to move us around. Stuff wears out, gets dirty, needs service.
Just try convincing all the car buyers of the period between late 2020-2022 that, no, their car did not appreciate in value, unless they sold it.
People about to FAFO (f around and find out) over the next year or two. Upside down car loans are going to be the norm.
Tacoma was originally a small pick up. It increased in size over time to accomodate customer preference. My dad’s old Taco’s, even before they carried that name, were a bench seat, but a sizeable truck bed.
Now, almost impossible to find a normal 2 seat cab one, with a standard size bed.
I get it. People don’t buy pickups exclusively for the utility. They want to “sit up high”. Maybe their attitudes about pick ups need to change. If size and sitting up high is that important, then buy a full size. Meanwhile, there are a lot of us who would still value a smallish pickup size, for the actual use that a larger truck bed can provide.
