Maurice Steijn (49) had sinds zondagavond zijn twijfels, maar wilde maandag – ondanks de pijnlijke nederlaag bij FC Utrecht (4-3) en de zeventiende plaats in de eredivisie – in principe door als trainer van Ajax. Maar dan wel zónder Hedwiges Maduro en Steven Berghuis, die hij ervan betichtte een mes in zijn rug te hebben gestoken. Die eis was echter onbespreekbaar voor de Ajax-leiding, waarna in goed overleg werd besloten het tot de zomer van 2026 lopende contract van Steijn te ontbinden.
In the long run it’s definitely unhealthy, but if it doesn’t take too long for Ajax to recover it’s a good thing for the overall competitiveness. Ajax collecting all the money in the world was choking the other clubs in the Eredivisie. Complete domination by a single team is never good for the league.
Ok yeah I was talking more about the long run indeed. Us hanging around at tenth place for a while will hurt nobody but us. Provided you guys get some points in Europe please beat Lazio thanks in advance :-)
True, but l never thought I’d live to see my club play on that stage (although it’s mostly because the tournament is being expanded). There’s supposedly also quite a lot of money involved which is nice as well and could come in handy getting this club 100% financially healthy again.

We will do our best! Also because collecting more coefficent points than Ajax this year means we will be going to the club World Cup instead of Ajax😎
