Maybe someday in the far future Bayern will accept that, while there defence is great on the paper, it isn’t that great on the pitch especially in tight games.

Sommer is and was always a great keeper and he was blamed by there fanbase for the bad season in parts while he had a really shaky defence.

As for Ter Stegen, Barca stands so solid with its injury problems and its offensive style, Xavi is doing a great job!

Yes and no this seaosn, we got a lot of clean sheets but also conceded 10 goals in those other 5 games (and that weren’t really high caliber opponents either)…

Last season was def better defensively but that’s the trade off you have to accept when playing Cancelo instead of Kounde at RB

that’s such fucking bullshit, Inter has been heavily building from the back for years. Onana was a big loss not because he was a generational shot stopper for us, but because we were basically immune to the press when he was playing.

Don’t try to reason with Bayern fans. They’re a reactionary bunch. They know they would have been far better off with Sommer, but they’ll never admit it.

Don’t think any Bayern fan is gonna claim that Ulreich is better than Sommer. Obviously he is a good keeper, who saved us a bunch. We just counted on Neuer being back sooner and getting a bag for Sommer as well.

I, for one, didn’t like the Sommer transfer all that much because it seemed like a great opportunity to try and find a young, promising keeper, who could eventually be Neuer’s replacement. But instead we went with the short-term option when Nubel scuffed us off.

Sommer was never the problem for Bayern. He is nowhere even close to as good as Neuer though so it was always going to be an issue in comparison. Even currently, only the idiots are blaming Sven for the draws. If Neuer looks like shit after he comes back in the next couple weeks, then Bayern will look kinda stupid not keeping Sommer or going for a top keeper. The defense is generally fine, they are just vulnerable to the counter because the Bayern midfield doesn’t do nearly enough defensive work. Hence why Tuchel wanted and still wants a 6.

This. The only reason Sommer left was because he wasn’t willing to sit on the bench when Neuer came back, especially with the Euros next year.

If Neuer had retired we’d have 100% kept Sommer on as the #1 and probably signed Kobel next summer.

If were are highlighting goalkeepers that were sold by Bayern then Nübel deserves more praise right now. He’s on +1.43 goals prevented in league play. Sommer on +0.30.
