To be honest we have 18 goals and 11 big chances, it means that we have scored goals off penalties and deflections and have been significantly luckier. This is not sustainable…. If I was Arteta I would be worried that we are lacking firepower in the striker department and our reliable creative players aren’t delivering as they used to. Odegaard and Saka haven’t been the force they were last season. In fact our players aren’t in top 10 in goals scored and assists.
Defensively we are solid now… but come January transfer season, he needs to add some power to the frontline.
This may sound unpopular and I am no way shitting on the manager or the team, just a stat that I am trying to wrap my head around…. Happy to be change my mind.
People try to cite penalties as though it’s underserved goals, forgetting that Romero literally saved one of off the line with his hand.
We’re arsenal, you know if we get a penalty it’s because the referee literally has no other choice.
Similarly, if defenders are desperately throwing themselves in front of your shots to the extent they’re putting it into their own goal. It’s probably not a bad shot.
No that’s not the point… the point is penalties are difficult to come by and historically refs haven’t been to kind to us mate. No one is discounting penalties as lucky man… its just that we aren’t creating chances enough
You’re making a completely different point there. If penalties are hard for us to come by, then that would mean we’re having to create more “chances” per penalty given.
What it sounds like is your trying to have your cake and eat it. If you think we’re lucky and shit mate you can’t also play the “refs don’t give us penalties, I’m an arsenal fan really” card. If you think we’re shit just say it.
It’s not the its undeserved, but it highlights a lack of chance creation from open play. Kinda says we’re trying to rely more on set pieces.
Getting penalties isn’t relying on set pieces.
