Owls have poor close range eyesight so some species have to use these long whiskers called rictal bristles as an aid to feel to feel for things. Even though Nellie is our smallest flying owl, he has the longest bristles of any of the Owls in our collection.
My wife also wanted me to grow a mustache. It looks about as neat as the owl’s.
Mine doesn’t really grow in the center at all, just on the sides. 😖

Without speaking, the owl had taught me many wisdoms, one being to never trust an owl.
This is a good lesson to learn.
