As Texas Republicans face increasing scrutiny over racist statements just weeks before the 2026 midterm elections, they’re turning to an old strategy to try to maintain control over a US Senate seat: transphobia.
An ad paid for by Texas PAC – which is associated with the Senate Leadership Fund, run by Senate Republicans – translates Donald Trump’s infamous line about Kamala Harris into Spanish and applies it to state Rep. James Talarico, the Democratic candidate for Senate in the state.
Easy counter: Do you like the prospect of being swept up by ICE for sounding or looking “too foreign?” Didn’t think so.
But sure, it’s trans people that are the problem, and Republicans definitely will not spend the next two years disappearing you and your peers. Wait, they didn’t promise that? Hmm…
They tried the same thing in Virginia last year and failed miserably. The Dems won 67% of the Latin vote
