I’m not sure what the answer is but the price of newspapers versus free scrolling online is also definitely a factor. And when a lot of people are figuring out how to afford the bread they need for the week, they’re not going to even consider a newspaper for the price of a loaf of bread, or more.
Movie theatres are another supposedly dying thing, where the price of admission has increased but the experience hasn’t improved alongside that price increase. In fact it’s become a little bit worse because when I was a kid, you got loads of movie trailers before the movie, now you get like 1 movie trailer and loads of bank and insurance company adverts. Getting harder and harder to justify one movie, some machine syrup coke and bag of popcorn for more than the cost of a Netflix subscription.
Newspapers are a much bigger loss to society though.
i wouldn’t hugely mind if it meant digital news were actually cheap, but they aren’t! I’m not paying 25 euro per month for the news wtf
