What do you mean you don’t wake up to go pee at 3 am, and then just lay in bed for awhile doing night math and thinking night thoughts?!

They absolutely can go above hull speed, they just need exponentially more power to do it as they’re basically going up the wake all the time. Even says so in the first paragraph in your link.
