- 1.5 oz Mezcal
- 3/4 oz cointreau
- 3/4 oz orange juice
- 3/4 oz lime juice
- 1/2 oz agave syrup
- pinch of salt
Shake everything with ice, and serve in a glass with a chili flakes rim.
The recipe originally mentioned tajin seasoning for the rim, but I didn’t have any. I replaced it with chili flakes, which worked well with the mezcal, but didn’t look as good!
Overall it was good, the smoke flavor from the mezcal was not overpowering, while still making this a mezcal drink.

I love mezcal cocktails. I am not sure about this particular recipe. A few comments(based on my own preference)
Cheers!
The orange juice definitely made the drink lighter than a traditional margarita. I tried a mezcal margarita before (classic recipe with mezcal instead of the tequila), and it was way too smoky for me. If I find some reposado I will definitely try though!
I was looking to try ancho reyes liquor, but I didn’t find a place to buy it unfortunately. I do plan to try a margarita with chili pepper though.
Thanks for the suggestions, I don’t know much about tequila/mezcal, but it’s a lot of fun to try it out :)
I can recommend Olmeca Altos Reposado for an affordable reposado for mixing. D go hmm bed Don’t buy the regular Olmeca because it’s not very good.
Naked and famous - shaken with ice served in martini glass with lime garnish. 1 part mezcal 1 part aperol 1 part yellow chartreuse (I’ve had trouble finding it lately) 1 part lime
Sooo good.
Sounds intriguing. I used to have green chartreuse but only used it a couple times, it was quite intense. Never tried yellow. I may try something like mezcal, amaro, vermouth.
