I think those are hype/fad prices on eBay. These types of Olympus cameras are pretty “meh” (no offense). There are other models in this similar model range that have things like zoom, manual focus, and external flash, but they’re just largely meant to be pretty generalized family point and shoot cameras.
If you’re looking for something with some personality that shoots 35mm, look for the Olympus Range Finder models, or maybe a Yashica. You’ll get some really interesting shots with those over these PnS ones.
I mean, $16 for something that goes for over a 100 on eBay is a pretty nice deal, regardless of whether you think it’s worth that money. I wouldn’t say that OP overpaid given these prices.

In general yes, but this looks like one of the highly sought after Epics, with large aperture and nice optics. Street photographers loved it.
