Apologize if this has been asked before.

I don’t want to set up a new account, but only get my banned account reactivated.

The account is approximately 10 years old. Was permanently banned 2 years ago. Karma total over 3 million. Mod of 4 popular subreddits. Never once threatened another poster or commentor. Never called for violence.

Never previously banned from a subreddit or site wide.

In a group that I moderated I posted an news article. There were “reports” about the post. As as mod I could see the reports. Remember that reddit bans posts from some “news” sites. So the article I posted was from an unbanned news source.

A few days later my account was banned site wide. I presume some users had found a method to get right to Admins to protest the fact that I dared post an article that they didn’t like.

After the ban I made a few “appeals”. Of course I got the standard “NO” regarding reinstatement without any specific mention regarding what exactly I did wrong. Reddit has site wide rules. I violated none of them.

Occasionally I will do a search of something and if it is a reddit source it will come up under my banned account on my laptop using Chrome. I never deleted the account and I’m sure the “reddit KILL” cookies are still in Chrome which I use for browsing. I still have the reddit app on my Iphone.

I haven’t made an appeal in over a year. I have no interest in setting up a NEW account. I’m just inquiring as to the possibility of getting my banned account reinstated.

If it exists, I haven’t found it, but was wondering if there is a method of appealing that is different from the norm where some Admin will actually read your appeal and after 2 years reinstate you.

My 6 years old account was banned recently too, for a comment that was considered a hate speech, however i dont even remember what exactly i wrote, as the comment was deleted by Reddit. I just know that I was very careful in my writings, so it came as a huge surprise. I guess our only chance is to wait for some future policy change or X like event where many accounts were given a second chance and the ban policy was loosen after Elon Musk bought twitter.

Even if you’re careful when writing your comment, it makes no difference if the admin reading your comment is not careful or has poor reading comprehension.

This is what happens when you have no rights and another person is given power over you. Even if they think they’re not being abusive, any small misunderstanding always ends in you being abused.

I am really sad because I love Reddit and think it’s a great and easy to use platform. The only issue in my opinion is the lack of free speech which produces the echo chamber effect. Furthermore banning you for live is a bit too harsh I think even when you really broke the rules. The current ban system does not count that people can change factor and provide second chances after an year or two…

Rather than “echo chamber” I prefer the phrase “hive mind”. If you go to r/conservative or r/politics you should be smart enough to know that you are not going to have any meaningful discussion. The people of those groups are in a hive mind. I’m not saying that they are bad people, just that they want to be surrounded by people that only think as they do. Most social media platforms lean heavily to the right or left. And that’s fine. But just admit it and don’t jerk me off telling me that you are a free speech neutral platform.

Unfortunately this is the current situation with many of the subs there. I really hope things will change in the future…

Interesting speculation regarding what happened at X and now Meta. Platforms that allow free speech. Not hate speech but multiple viewpoints. I never see Lemmy banning people for simply expressing a minority opinion but reddit continues to do it. If they ever change they will surely be at the end of the line of change.

The issue is when comments that contradict someone’s opinion are also considered a hate speech. I believe that anyone should have the freedom to express his opinion without the risk of getting banned.

Everyone understands hate speech. “All Whites are bad” and other nonsense like that when you condemn a whole group of people. In my opinion the phrase “hate speech” has a new meaning and used when someone cannot have a civil debate explaining their position and how it differs from your opinion. I like reading all opinions. But I know if someone screams “hate speech” when it obviously is not is just that they have no rational counter argument.
