This is really sad. A half-decent marketing campaign, a few press releases saying it’s the new Twitter and people just sign up. There’s Mastodon. We’ve been so close. It’s sad

Why is it sad? Mastodon is also still growing and seeing large sign up bumps.

When bluesky goes to shit in a few years, most people will jump on the next billionaire’s scam and fedi will still be right here

I’ve seen that kind of argument before and I understand it, but I can’t agree. I think it’s not the majority that makes the site bad, it’s a ridiculously small minority, driven by the site’s algorithm to be highly visible, that creates a vicious circle where more people become polarized (as a reaction but also to gain visibility and relevance).

A site like Bluesky, with its investors and shareholders, will sooner or later fall into the same thing, Mastodon could be the place to leave that tiny group of crazies in their own secluded space. It would be a gain for society but I think the window of opportunity is closing.

What? magic? that’s a really weird way to refer to a website, are you a teenager in love? if twitter was ever cool it was maybe in 2012-2014 (during occupy wall street) but it certainly wasn’t just musk who took down the site. Enjoy when Bluesky discovers he can make more money with polarization, the magic is over
