Spent many hours immersed in Elite with my HTC Vive back in the day when the Beyond update dropped. Recently ordered a Bigscreen Beyond to get back into VR. Been needing to finish Alyx and put more hours into the Index wands to justify purchasing them anyhow… What’s new in the past 6 years of Elite Dangerous?

VR support was dropped as of Odyssey, is what’s new.

It’s not been removed, but no new content is accessible via VR.

You make it sound like playing in Odyssey (where all the current Thargoid war action is) isn’t VR. The on-foot portion is a flat display. Flying in odyssey supports vr.

        For non-vr players?

There’s a ton of changes that’ve happened over the years, of course. Fleet carriers, ship engineering, fighters, multi-player-crews, thargoid raids, etc.

Depending on when you last played, there’s a shit-ton of stuff in the game that might be new, after all.

I worded that pretty poorly, what I was wondering was if there’s any new stuff to do in VR if I don’t purchase Odyssey. I stopped playing pretty early after Horizons came out, before any of the Thargoid stuff started getting interesting.

FPS gameplay is the opposite of what I would find interesting in E:D, so I probably wouldn’t be getting that expansion if I started playing again.

Aw… Well that’s less than exciting. Are there any community mods or tricks for supporting VR in the new content?

Don’t think so. When you run the game in VR and go into on-foot gameplay, the game switches to displaying as a floating virtual flat-screen.

Playing that stuff with a hotas isn’t the best experience anyway, it’s FPS gameplay so KBM is what you want. For it to be worth playing in VR it’d have to be far more integrated, and preferably work using wand/index/touch controllers.

If you go into third person camera mode while on foot you get full VR, but you don’t get a HUD.
