Great post! I really appreciate how you break things down and give folks realistic solutions. My entire career as a commander has been on Linux (with a HOTAS and a bunch of EDMC plugins).

Does running E:D on Linux work ok with joysticks, throttles, and pedals?

(I have a warthog stick, thrustmaster pedals, and CH Pro throttle)

I’ve played for years using various Thrustmaster and VKB sticks, throttles, and rudder pedals on Slackware, Funtoo, Void, and Tumbleweed. VR works ok too, though less performant post-Odyssey.

You’re welcome! I should also mention that AntiMicroX has been a lifesaver ever since I got a throttle and a stick that have more than 32 buttons. Because that’s the limit that E:D can see on one device, I just use AMX to map the remaining buttons to keyboard keys.

Thanks. I have a Thrustmaster set in box still I was gonna hook up and test but now I don’t have to -.-

I’ve been playing on DualShock 4/ DualSense 5 myself the entire time on PC.

Odyssey/new engine gine brought the ability to double bind control keys. So now I can use my DPad in space for precision thrusters on top of normal functions so that solved my only pre-existing gripe about FA off w/controller.

Ah, I wasn’t aware of the double-binding for gamepads, that’s good to know. As a ~95% FA-off pilot (the feel of that flight model is like half the reason I play), I can sympathize.

I only wish they had found a way to make Odysee in VR. I understand why it isn’t (I’d image wicked motion sickness or horribly awkward motion controls), but after spending so many hours mystified by the Galaxy I’m full immersion, I have no desire to play this on a flat screen.
