The House Ethics Committee investigating Rep. Matt Gaetz has reached out to the woman whom the congressman allegedly had sexual relations with when she was a 17-year-old minor, according to a source familiar with the committee’s work.
Maybe, maybe not. Gaetz has made few friends and many enemies in Washington. They have grudges. They also don’t have to worry about the math: there’s no way his replacement won’t be deep-red GOP. Further, they have recently ejected one of their own despite lack of a criminal conviction - Santos was destroyed by an ethics investigation which gave them cover to vote him out.
Timing will be interesting though - Gaetz will certainly win reelection. Do they pull the trigger now just to have to welcome him back next January?
