If only speaking from personal experience, many games nowadays have an almost implicit requirement to search up a “before I play” guide or a “beginner recommendations”. If nothing else, many people want to Google “missables”, to ensure that they can fully experience a game.

What is your recommended game that requires nothing but the player to be in the moment and enjoy the experience?

Fromsoft releases, I always pre order them but get around playing them much later on, dodging all of the spoilers for Elder Ring was the hardest game so far, glad AC is more niche so I didn’t see much.

I think boss openings are the worst to get spoiled on, there is no other feeling in the game as your first time meeting and fighting a boss imo.

A lot of im sims but Prey comes to mind first. Ik it’s basically a meme how often it gets called underrated but I swear that game has one of the highest satisfaction ceilings I’ve ever experienced. It’s almost a sandbox game with how many viable options there are and it makes every encounter feel like playing a puzzle game where everyone’s agreed to cheat, made all the more fulfilling when you’re coming up with the solutions on your own

Came here to say (though it’s been said, we must unite our voices further, my friends!) Return of the Obra Dinn.

My friend Christine told me the BARE minimum about it, and that was the right way to go.

A lot of older games, watch out this will probably become a longer thread.

So I’m 22 but I’m also really into old games 80, 90 early 2000. There are a lot of games I want to play and I felt like time was an issue. So when starting my retro adventure I was often prompt to follow a walkthrough. It was so I could enjoy the game without missing essential parts (which is very possible in older titles) and so I could save some time. It was only after a longer time that I discovered that playing those games and completing them wasn’t as fun as it used to be. While playing ‘ocarina of time’ for the first time I followed a walkthrough to find all collectibles and items and only realized in the end game that that was the thing that ruined my experience. It wasn’t an adventure anymore but more like a tasklist that I was gradually completing. Nowadays I still use the internet for some issues but only when I’m absolutely stuck or at the end of the game to finish some stuff but I try exploring on my own and it is WAY more enjoyable. I still look up stuff its just not my to go thing anymore. So long story short looking things up can be helpful just watch out to not look up too much and ruin your gaming experience.
