Siakam and OG have been in the news for trade talks for years. Now that Siakam is on the last year of his contract, and OG in his 2nd to last year looking for an extension, Masai has put himself in a hole just like he did with Kawhi Leonard, Marc Gasol, Serge Ibaka, Danny Green, Fred VanVleet.

Siakam is averaging less points, rebounds, assists, steals, and blocks from last year. He’s shooting 19% from 3. He’s having his worse season since 2018.

OG is avereging less Points, rebounds, assists steals, and blocks from last year. He went from having 2.0 steals last year to 1.0 this year. This is also his worst year since 2018

Now they either have to pay Siakam a 200-300 mil contract, or sell him cheap for a 3 month rental. They either have to max or near max OG, or sell him for less value than they could have a year or two ago

Masai has been the worst executive/GM since the raptors championship 5 years ago, and the Raptors are suffering in eastern conference purgatory because of him

He should have traded both of them years ago.

This team has been going nowhere since Kawhi left. They need to just go full rebuild.

I feel like Toronto is a PG away from being relevant again. Maybe trade OG for assets but then flip those on draft night for the nest PG they can find and then re-sign Siakam. There’s a solid group of guys up there, they just lack play making. They lost Lowry and VanVleet steadied the ship but now he’s gone too. Schroder is playing above expectations but hes not good enough to be a focal point of an offense. That team is full of guys who are really good but I wouldnt want the ball in any of their hands with 10 seconds left on the clock.

As for who I think they should pursue, no idea. We’re a trade deadline and a playoffs away from the offseason and things can change rapidly.

    TL;DR

This roster is pretty decent top to bottom, getting a good playmaker at the expense of OG could do a lot for them.

Can tell you have zero clue what you’re talking about with this sentence alone.

Meh still got that championship so I’m happy. We were mediocre before it as well lol.

Also I really need to understand from your perspective OP how he put himself in a hole with Kawhi? If anything I’d say Kawhi fumbled massively going leaving that raps team to go to the clippers.

Masai really only fumbled getting anything back for Lowry and VanVleet. Who knows if people were offering anything for VanVleet but Lowry had Lakers willing to give up Schroder/KCP/1st for Lowry but Raptors also wanted THT.

I think one of Siakam and OG will flat out walk and the other stays for the big bag they’ll command. Should’ve blown it up 2 years ago.

There’s no reason to think that Siakam & OG (who both have gotten better every season), would get even a little bit better and raise their value this season, especially after a guy (FVV) who took away a lot of touches was gone.

I think he made the right move. Maybe a deal just wasn’t there

I feel like it completely shattered his expectations of trade deals, dude wants to get a superstar + role player in every trade and doesn’t budge. Lost VanFleet for nothing too.

FVV offers were no good. I think at most it was a bucks pick which is a glorified 2nd round pick.

and the FO didn’t expect a team to offer him 40M/yr

Remember when all the Raptors fans thought they were getting Giannis because of his connection to Masai? When Masai and Raptors fans wanted a 1st round pick for all their players last season yet this team of “elite players worth a 1st round pick” barely made the play in that season.

On the one hand, he’s given us a bunch of 1st round picks for guys who aren’t real difference makers.

On the other hand, those picks have turned into non-difference-makers.
