Ok so I just swapped over a 2000 1zz from an mr2 spyder into my Corolla, everything worked great on both cars. I’m using the 2zz from my 05 corolla xrs in the mr2. Here’s my problem when I went to start the Corolla (freshly swapped 1zz and 5spd from the Spyder) I was using the 2zz ecu I didn’t know I was not supposed to use this(this is my first swap ever)The car started it reved up to I’d say 2.5k n then died I asked questions and found out I was using the wrong ecu. Does anyone know what year or what part number ecu I should try using? I ordered this ecu(part number 89661-0Z043) I did the sync the key (I used the old key do I need a new one?) and the car will not start it only cranks I’ve read somewhere that the ecu can be full on key codes which doesn’t allow me to sync a key to it, is that true? If so can I reset it possibly? I am using the 2zz harness as well but I mean it started lol. So I think the harness is fine…. Any input would be greatly appreciated thanks!

I would grab an ECU from a scrapyard and start there, pennies on the dollar.

IMO you should have swapped the ecu from the 1ZZ to the Corolla. Match ecu with engine it was used for as well as the key. I’m not sure if both of these vehicles have immobilizes but in the 2000s Toyota started using those and you have to match keys to ecu. Harness should stay with the car but will have to be modified I would imagine.

The ecu goes with the engine. 1zz ecu with the 1zz, 2zz ecu with the 2zz.
