I took my '24 M4 CompX into the dealership for its 1200 mile break in service. While I was waiting I was playing around on the BMW app on my phone I for some reason I will never understand pressed the remote start and even confirmed it was what I wanted to do, I think this was out of dehydration which lead to some kinda confusion/disorientation.

I immediately hear a and loud sound coming from the service bay and a lot of commotion. The service advisor comes running over to me and says the car was empty of oil when I did that and that my warranty was void. They tried to get my car down from the lift as soon as they could but it ran atleast 1-2 min without oil in it. The car still drives but barely and it is making literally the worst smell. How badly did I #rekt my engine.

Should I just go trade it in for something else instead of taking my chances with it?

So the techs closed all windows, locked all the doors and put the e-brake on before lifting your car so the remote start could work during an oil change?

    This is a fake story

Someone actually did, one of the techs was laughing so hard at me he started getting cramps and it was painful to him

This may help. Call your auto insurance claims dept. Assuming you have Comprehensive Coverage, it may cover the repair (minus the deductible) since it was an incident that damaged your car while not in motion or being in a collision. They may not cover damage you do to your own car BUT hypothetically here you may have been confused by an app and its ramifications so maybe the complex remote system did the damage, not you. It’s worth a call and checking into it.

Not sure how that happened. I was unable to remote start my M340i after an exhaust install. It gave a message and didn’t start… once down from the lift it worked.

Fun fact: Try to operate your app and start the engine while it’s elevated in any way or even remotely thinks it is. It does not work :P Cool story for the rest.

I know it’s not true because of the safety features built in from other commenters, but if it was, JFC.

You’d be one 🤦🏼‍♂️, and I have zero sympathy for you.

The car still drives but barely and it is making literally the worst smell.

I think this says it all.

Running an engine with no lubrication is not going to be good for it. And now you’ve put oil in it and it isn’t driving very well, then that tells me some very bad things have happened inside.

You’re looking at a big bill for repair.
