Hello everyone, I’m 19 and looking to buy my first car and I’ve narrowed it down to two cars available in my area (upstate New York). The two cars are a 2009 Toyota Rav-4 with 104k miles on it and a Nissan Altima with a little over 90k miles. I test drove the Rav-4 yesterday and nothing seemed wrong with it however I’m not that mechanically inclined, I go test drive the Altima tomorrow. I know without you being able to see the cars there’s not much you can say, but I’m just curious if anyone here has experience working on these 2 cars and or any recommendations for me. Or if there any major issues you know of to look for between these cars.

Thank you all for any suggestion or knowledge you can share me its greatly appreciated.

Nissan CVT transmissions are a dumpster fire in a vat of burning medical waste, they suck more than the vacuum of space. They’re more unreliable than Jeffrey Dahmer on a cocktail of LSD, PCP, THC and moonshine.

Most Nissan CVTs are lucky to make it to the end of the 60k mile warranty. So hell to the no to the Nissan.

Make sure you get the Toyota inspected by a trusted mechanic because Rust is not your friend in that part of the country .
