My M3 is in great condition w/ only 100k miles but there are days when something more up to date is really appealing for where I am in life. The car is my daily and I don’t have an option to have a true daily.

I’ve driven a low mile F87 because I needed to scratch the itch you have. To be blunt, the itch was scratched. Maybe I’d feel differently about an M2C, and I still wonder about that one, but the OG M2 did nothing for me. I drove it hard, and the N55 just didn’t bring the same satisfaction as the S54. And as a daily, I just didn’t really see a lot of meaningful difference; if anything, it felt like it numbed the driving experience more than made anything significantly more comfortable. I also have an autosolutions SSK in my car and the M2’s shifter felt like a dislocated shoulder.

What is it you want from your daily? You can upgrade the infotainment very easily. If you want things like adaptive suspension, adaptive cruise, etc… you’d need to look elsewhere anyway, because the F87 doesn’t have those. I’ve done this thought process many times, and my plan is to add an autobahn trim GTI in a year or two.

I daily an F80 ZCP — so not the same as an F87 CS, but pretty similar — and have an E46 M3 track car. The S55 is a big step up from the N55, but it still doesn’t have nearly as much character as the S54.

However, I do think the F8x is a massive step up as a daily. The adaptive suspension (which did come on the M2 CS) is pretty darn good at giving the car a split personality, the traction control is way better, you have more accessible power, it’s arguably more reliable, and you don’t have to deal with all of the issues that come with driving a car that’s old enough to vote (like getting adequate insurance, ask me how I know).
