Real Madrid currently have won 14 CL titles, do you think in the next 50-60 years, any club could have overtaken them in the record or they’d continue to reign?
Their team is currently in transition, but with assembly of young stars like Vini, Rodrygo, Bellingham, Endrick, Camavinga, Tchouameni, Valverde, Militao, Guler and potentially Davies + Mbappe in 2024 may get them more CL wins in this decade alone!
Do you think any team can overtake them in most CLs won by our lifetime or is the gap too big to overcome?
It’s very unlikely.
The next closest are Milan and the chances of them being in it on a consistent enough basis AND being good enough is a long shot to more than double their current haul.
Liverpool are in a very competitive league where an iffy season can see you out of it, but even if they do maintain the high level they’ve been at for the last 6 years, it’d still be very unlikely they’d catch up before Madrid won another. Hell, even if they’d won the two recent finals they’d played them in, they’d still be 4 behind.
Bayern is the most likely as they have the right mix of monopoly over their league to cherry pick the best of it while still have it be competitive enough to be sharp and be in it consistently. However, 8 titles is… a big, big gap.
All the others aren’t even worth considering.
In reality, they did win 5 of those titles at a time when it wasn’t really seen as a serious competition and that’s what will keep them ahead essentially forever.
