My brakes suddenly started making a grinding noise that’s worse when I’m at low speeds and pushing down on the brake all the way, I had my brakes checked a couple of months ago and they were all at 8mm but I do drive for work so idk. It came up suddenly, I think it might be because I’ve been driving in a lot of dirt and rock filled areas and it might be dust build up or something like that? I’m gonna get it checked as soon as possible, but I just wanted opinions on what I could expect.

“What to expect” completely depends on where you take it. Can you inspect the brakes yourself? Maybe post a pic or two that shows how thick the pads are. A possibility, even if remote, is that a backing plate, which is a cover on the back of each of the brake rotors, may have been struck by some road debris or whatever and is now rubbing against the rotor when the car moves. This all may be something you can sort out yourself for $0 if you’re willing to jack up the car a time or two.

Brakes make noise !!! Sometimes they get rusty, dirt or salt gets in them, or they just grind a little.

Many cars brakes grind when braking slowly at low speeds.

I have found that doing an E stop a couple times can help.

But also there could be a problem. I doubt the pads a worn but something else could be wrong
