Hey guys. On my ‘09 Honda Accord, the power steering doesn’t work like it should when I start it after it’s been sitting overnight.
- ps pump whines (not when experiencing no pump assist during startup, only after it’s fully operational)
- it’s been getting close to or below freezing most nights recently
- I checked the fluid a few weeks ago (when ps was not working completely) and it was empty so I added new fluid and the fluid that came out of the reservoir was dirty as ****
- could the fluid be contaminated to the point where it would freeze or become very sludgy in cold weather?
- how do I fix this problem
- would flushing the ps fluid be a good idea until I get a new ps pump
The video wouldn’t attach so I’ll just explain it. When I started my car, the power steering wouldn’t work for a few minutes. The only way to get it to work is to kind of “loosen it” by turning one direction and holding it until the power steering engages a little bit then turning it the other direction and doing the same thing until I have full power steering.
If it was empty, you need to bleed the system. Turn the wheel lock to lock a ton of times with the reservoir cap off.
You’re going to need to find the leak. Hopefully you used the Honda fluid.
