Hi, I am looking for a new (to me) truck and am considering a 2000 Chevy Silverado 2500 HD 6.0L gas truck with around 150k miles. It’s a 4x4.

Is this a reliable year/model and is there anything I should be aware of and/or ask about if I go to look at it? I’ll definitely take a look at the frame and underneath for rust. The main thing I care about is reliability, not bells/whistles.

Thanks for any advice/suggestions.

Make sure to start it cold and watch the oil pressure gauge. Silverados around that era have low oil pressure issue which seem to have multiple reasons why. Mine only has issues when cold then is fine once engine temp comes up.

Expect about 7mpg. Check the trans level when hot. Black with a burnt smell is not good. 150k is about the limit on a non-maintained tranny.
