So, basically what’s on the title.

Plus, some opinions based on the little experience I have already:

  1. the screen is not NEARLY as bad as people make it out to be, specially compared to the OG Switch. It’s much better.

  2. the wifi module is a piece of garbage. I’ve been dealing with issues since I turned it on. Updating was a pain in the ass, downloading games was a pain in the ass. 5ghz wifi literally doesn’t work at all, 2.4ghz works but slow as fuck (like 1/5 of my actual speed). I’m actually super frustrated about this one.

You can try turning off wifi power saving in the options menu, and if that doesn’t help, try turning off ipv6 in the wifi settings menu in desktop mode. Either of these might help.

I don’t think it did a difference, but I haven’t downloaded anything from Steam itself, I’ve been messing with emulation. When I try it I’ll let you know.

Do you have the download display set to bits or bytes per second? It is a factor of 8 difference.

I think it’s bits. But it’s not a problem of slow speed, it goes full throttle at first and then it dies completely, to 0

I use Mac filtering in my router to force the use of 5ghz - but mine has that option, your mileage may vary there. I did this with my switch as well.

Step one: install a game you never thought you’d get to play handheld

Step two: marvel at the technology, what a time to be alive

Step three: all that other tinker shit other people tell you to fuck with

Personally, I would recommend picking up a USB C to Ethernet adapter. I don’t use WiFi for any downloads over 4 GB, I just plug it in wired and let 'er rip. As for file transfers I either use a USB drive and move things along with that as the transfer medium, or I copy my files to my NAS and then that can be the intermediary.

for file transferring, if you are familiar with it you can use ssh/sftp. An ssh service would run on your deck and you can simply transfer the files between your computer/deck with winscp/filezilla

I don’t get why people complain about WiFi, I’m downloading and playing from a room away from my router yet I have no issue. Then I remember… I used to work in customer care, people don’t know how internet works (looking at you Darren, for getting your router to the cabin and wondering why your internet doesn’t work).

Brother I’m literally saying how 5ghz freq doesn’t even work. I know my stuff, I’m no Darren. You could google and see how many people are having the same issue as me.

The OG Deck’s wifi module is just crap.

I think that your module might be faulty. I have the original deck 64gb and for a time I only had 5g enabled in my house.

Regardless, I have an inexpensive dock with a ethernet port connected to a generic fast charger I got online for my galaxy S20fe and if I want to download a game particularly fast, I just dock it

For transfering files between PC and Deck, you can share a folder and access it from desktop mode. See how here. Looks like a hassle, but it’s set up once and forget about it, and for me it’s the easiest way.

Also, keep in mind that if you have a Steam game downloaded on your desktop PC and want to download it on the Deck, having the PC on with Steam running, just hit download on the Deck and Steam will transfer all it can from your local PC, which should be faster than downloading from the internet.
