I love the look of the LE, but I have been hearing a lot of issues are cropping up such as the dead pixels. Are those issues for all OLED models or just the LE specifically? I’m not sure which one to get, thank you.
I personally have no interest in opening a Deck so 1TB limited is what I got…perfect complementary system to my main rig…love it
depends if you are willing to play the lottery.
I love the orange (it’s more orange than red) highlights on the Limited Edition. And the orange screws are easier to find when dropped, which is a nice accidental bonus. Another accidental bonus that I like but some don’t: the top LED is visible from the front through the transparent case. The case art is a nice little thing too (and it’s definitely a little thing, not a big thing). I would go for the Limited, it’s worth the extra $30. And I don’t have any dead pixels on mine.
All OLED panels, not only steam decks are susceptible to dead pixels, but boe seems to be more common. All OLED models have an issue or two, so it’s a gamble nonetheless like LCD was pretty much until Q4. Headphone jack with static sound, mushy dpads and buttons, track pad issues, etc. I got the LE and got lucky with everything else but the headphone jack (it’s a common issue on regular OLEDs too). I am a fan of transparent tech and I thought getting an LE was worth not having to swap it myself like I had to with my LCD. There’s no wrong answer, so follow your heart
After reviewing various posts, I’ve decided to opt for the 1TB OLED version instead of the Limited Edition (LE). A plausible reason for the LE version featuring a less expensive BOE panel could be Valve’s initial procurement strategy. Perhaps Valve originally ordered from BOE but later discovered a higher than anticipated defect rate. To utilize the existing stock of BOE’s OLED panels, the LE was launched exclusively in Canada and the USA. For all other models, it seems they might switch to Samsung’s OLED panels. This switch might indicate that Valve perceives a difference in quality, as it wouldn’t make sense to incur higher costs for the standard version otherwise. There’s also the lawsuit filed by Samsung against BOE, which aimed to prevent BOE from fulfilling Valve’s order. This situation suggests that Valve might be using the limited version to honor their contract with BOE before transitioning exclusively to Samsung panels.
My LE is perfect, no dead pixels, every button works as it should and no stick drift. Love the device,
I say neither. Get the 512 OLED and pop a 2TB SSD in there. Ultimate Deck!
So why does the LE tend to have issues? I just got the OLED myself but I though the LE had a different color or something
I picked up the LE. just because it was available, and it was a gift for myself.
If it was not available, i would have just gotten the other one.
