Hello people. I found a really good deal on a 1999 C180 sedan locally, but the owner says the car doesnt crank or start because of the key not communicating with the car. He also told me there was previously also a problem with the steering wheel lock but they managed to fix that. Is it the eis module, and would replacing it solve the problem? Or what else could cause this, and how expensive of a fix is it if i do everything myself?

If the key goes into the ignition and NO CLICK is heard from the steering lock, you got an EIS or key problem. I have had old keys where the power inductor coil broke off the board, so the EIS couldn’t power the key. Transferred a coil from a donor key and rescued the car. If it cranks but doesn’t start, you’re gonna have to go digging.
