Hey everyone,
I have a Steam Deck Oled on its way coming the 27th of this month (tomorrow), and I ordered the 1 tb LE version. However, I wanted to get some more storage in the chance that I need it. Currently on Amazon, the 1.5 tb Sandisk Ultra is going for $162 CAD, which is on sale from $210. The thing that worries me about this card is the read and write speeds, and how that may affect gameplay. Because of this, would you all recommend picking up this card still or the 1 tb Sandisk Extreme, which has a higher read and write speed and is $165 CAD (regular price). Thanks!
I did not notice a difference between the 1 TB Extreme Pro and the 1.5 TB ultra personally on the deck. I have both.
Theoretically the U3 A2 card should perform better but my real world testing by downloading and running games indicated to me that either works well in the deck.
The internal NVMe will obviously always be fastest / best - but the SD card is totally usable.
On the OG (lcd) deck I usually used the sd cards just to keep games I may want to play downloaded and then I swapped them into the NVMe as I wanted to play them. Was generally faster to copy off the SD than to download fresh.
The WiFi / LAN feels a lot faster to me on the OLED so downloading games from the net feels a lot faster.
Just make a list of games that are not very loading heavy like most old games. And put them all on microsd. I have around 800gb of such games on my microsd. And i obviously dont put ratchet and clank on microsd as that is one of the most storage heavy games, that one is on internal ssd. Starfield should be on internal ssd too as thats currently the heaviest loading game.
