getting pretty overwhelmed with scan tool research and the internet can be misleading to tell if its a genuine review that’s not paid for or just clever marketing. ben looking on AliExpress, amazon, harbor freight, and second hand used. I’ve been eyeing the Launch x431 platform but don’t want to pay $600 yearly subscription. My main needs are ecm/ecu vin transfer, key reprogram, injector coding, and in-depth scanning. Is the the Launch x431 the best purchase I can make under $500 or are their better alternatives?

You’re asking kind of a lot for a tool in that price range. But Launch probably has good functionality in that range. Topdon might be a contender as well. You may find 2 years free subscription with some, but eventually you’ll have to pay to keep it current
JB Tools is probably the best scanner seller online.
