There are 2 different OLED panels. OBE and Samsung. They are nearly identical, but I discovered that the finger tracking is faster on the Samsung panel compared. It’s subtle, but definite.

So, I’m testing the OLED Samsung 1TB / 512GB and the OBE LE Steam Decks against the original etched and glossy LCD’s.

I don’t have any dead pixels in any of them, but I did notice that the touch sensitivity on the OBE is more laggy when you move your finger across the screen. It is definitely not tracking as well as the Samsung displays.

It’s better than the older LCD, but not by much. This makes the OBE panel a no go for me. It’s a very stark difference.

If there is a setting to fix this that I don’t know about, please let me know.

So one thing I haven’t heard a lot of people mention, that you might be able to clarify, have you been seeing the 1 TBs mostly be Samsung panels, or is it a mix of Samsung and BOE? Because from what I’ve heard, the Limited Edition is all BOE panels, while the 512 GB is all Samsung panels, but I’m not sure the split on the 1 TB models, which supplier is more common and all that.

I tried making a video, but it’s difficult to reproduce on the phone. Maybe a high speed setting. I’ll try to do that later. But it’s very noticeable… Scrolling through menus up and down quickly. The Samsung panel follows my finger much closer. The OBE is a little bit sluggish in comparison.

Thanks for the testing. I’ll be buying one on Friday and I’ve been all over this sub for about a week learning as much as I can. It sounds like the 1TB or 512 is the way to go.

The nice thing about the LE is that it’s about 20g lighter than the new OLED. Sucks that the screen is a bit less responsive to touch though. Bummed out a bit, but it’s a big enough difference.

I was going to go with the LE because I wanted the lighter weight and the etched screen, but having them all here and testing them all out … I think I’m going with the 512GB with the glossy screen… It’s nice to have the glossy most of the time, if I need to, I can always put a temporary anti glare screen maybe.

Anyway… Bummer about the touch responsiveness

One question, at the same level of brightness, does the BOE LE panel or the Samsung 1TB look better in colors and blacks?

The panel on my LE model looks incredible, swapping it out though because of a dead pixel. Touch sensitivity isn’t even a factor for me because I forget that the Steam deck even is a touch screen

Of all the things regarding the different versions the screen being more responsive is luckily one of my least important things for me. It already felt fine in the old one. Never even had a problem with it so any improvement was a plus. Lol

Does the touch screen even matter with a Steam Deck? So far I’ve only used the buttons and the track pads on mine.

It does if you use the desktop mode a lot to tinker around with things. The LCD SD is a pain in the ass in desktop mode because of it, the trackpad helps but it’s still slower than it would be with an accurate touch screen.

That’s… assuming that the touch controls have been improved in desktop on the OLED, I don’t have one so I can’t check to be sure

It makes the on-screen keyboard more or less usable, and there’s plenty of games which work better with touch than trackpad control.
