Current the s23+ is listed at $750 on the Samsung Shop mobile app. Various trade ins are listed at $200, but if applied yield a total of $600 for the phone… the way they justify this is that because the phone is originally $1000, and it’s being discounted by 25%, they take $200 off of the original price of the phone before applying the discount. I.e. ($1000-$200)*0.75=$600. So your trade in is really only valued at $150 by Samsung.
In my opinion it’s shady to advertise the $750 price (after the discount) but NOT advertise the trade in value after the discount.
I went through over 2 weeks of their bs for the same issues. I had an S22+ to trade for $600 and bring the S23 Ultra down to $299.99. Went through multiple customer service folks that agreed with me (I even purchased it through CS) and they escalated it 3 times. Each time it was rejected for unclear reasons. I kept being told I’d get follow ups and supervisors would call me because I had a legitimate issue but nothing ever happened. I filed a report a with the BBB and cancelled my order today after they suggested attempting a 4th escalation. Really foul practice.
Yep! I called them to discuss the false advertising and walked them through the math step by step. She put me on hold and said she talked to the manager in the promo dept. Said she agrees with me completely but that there is nothing she or her manager could do. I said this is the definition of false advertising and in the world we live in, don’t be surprised if there is a class action lawsuit. Shady ass shit!!
These tactics have been going on since the launch of the S23.
Because it’s false advertisement. I reported them to my AG. 2 weeks ago you could get the education discount + the 25% off from the black Friday crap. I was getting the s23 ultra. Total before trade in 719.99. 719.99-600 from my trade in=359.99 like wtf. And to make it worse, after adding it to the cart, It went back to 450 something. I have screenshots and a ticket open for them to honor it but this is something I would expect from some scammers, not them.
Same issues. I tried to apply my first responder discount with the Black Friday promotion and it combined the discounts until I got to the checkout. I was on with customer support for two hours yesterday just for a supervisor to tell me that both offers cannot be combined.
That’s BS. If they can’t be combined then why it shows right before going to checkout? That’s some extremely shady stuff
they should have given it to you for free… those samsung bastards…
Hey I don’t mind paying for stuff, but if I am being advertise that an item is xxx amount BEFORE trade in, and it shows the trade in for an specific amount I expect it to be what I was advertised. Even worse, the price shown changes when adding to the cart for checkout
How many times did you try? I got the S23 Ultra 256GB for $249.99 with fold 4 trade in and the student discount.
The savings were $800 trade in credit and $150 student discount which should be the normal way of calculating it. They were also offering a bundle for the tab S9U for free if you traded in a tab S8U which I did.
But the cart was all over the place, given me different numbers every time I refreshed, first 449 then 399 then finally 249.
But I do everything through the website, once the app locks a price it doesn’t change.
That’s interesting. I didn’t try a lot from the app. I’ll try again but thanks for telling me
Also - it’s irking that the “25%” is not listed anywhere on the s23 product page, or checkout. They never show the calculation. They should not be allowed to advertise the total price value after the discount and then list all discounts with under the inflated, PRE discounted, prices.
Advertise or not, at the end of the day you are the one buying the phone anyways. Complaining how someone else runs it’s business is pointless.
Discount or not, i wouldnt pay more then 10% of the msrp
I was shopping for a s23 ultra. It was $899 before trade in and some promotion. I selected to trade in my phone valued at $800, but then when I go to check out they want $299. I decided against it.
Same shadyness with the Z Flip 5.
This is the new Samsung. Their shady/false discount advertising and price change in cart has been going on since the launch of the S23. That’s why I, and many others that normally upgrade every year, didn’t. I’m still suffering with my S22u. At this point, I’ll see what trades are like for upcoming s24u. If they suck, it may be time to move away from Samsung finally.
