Feels like refereeing has been questionable for a long time now in the premire league but could premier matches be rigged now? The way Thiago Silva played today has got me thinking whether it’s all intentional.

Silva’s play today doesn’t indicate anything other than an off game. I thought Simon Hooper had a wildly different scale for what was deemed a foul/card, but Chelsea didn’t deserve a win regardless. Didn’t play their game at all.

I don’t believe in a wise scale conspiracy, but from what I’ve seen over the last year, WC refereeing included, and given the instances of corruption across other European leagues (Barca, Juve, Milan just to name a few) i think it’s naive to think bookmakers and broadcasters don’t have some influence on how some matches pan out. There’s too much money and too many ways to hide it. Again, i don’t think its for or against a particular team, but i do think entertainment and keeping things “competitive” could be at the forefront of suspicious decisions we’re seeing right now.

As someone who works alongside the betting industry, the idea that bookmakers want matches to be rigged is a non starter. Bookmakers make loads of money from football without the games being rigged. If they were match fixing involved the bookmakers would be the ones who lose out, firstly they would be the ones being taken for a ride on the individual fixture, secondly it would undermine faith in the system and punters would be less likely to make bets.

Games aren’t rigged, but corruption has taken their stand in the league. When fifa ambassadors are given dirty money, world cups are bought, referees are flying down to other countries to referee useless games for high amounts of money(in the same countries who owns English clubs), the countries making their mark in football has legitimate sports washing agendas and the president of football is seen laughing away in Moscow in 2018 with Putin and the Saudi sheikh it all makes sense why football is slowly dying.

I think VAR has shown that your average referee is a fucking idiot and hasn’t a clue about the actual game they’re supposed to supervise. They can’t even understand “clear and obvious”. A referee saying “no contact no pen” is obv a clear and obvious error when you view it and there’s clear contact. I.e Burnley’s non-pen from this afternoon.

It’s not rigged. The PL has just become a clown show from those running it to the referees.

No, I dont think outright match-fixing is happening if thats what you mean. I do however believe that some teams are absolutely doped to the gills.

Dunno. If anything is going on it’s between the broadcasters and the officials, at some level.

Reffing is rigged if not in all but in many games, I am certain of that. Until we have full transparency of VAR and refs communications, I will maintain my assertion. Alternative explanation is only one - refs are a special population of inbred individuals coming from a small geographical area on an isolated island off the coast of a continent.
