Hi there!

I just got on keto a few weeks ago(have also been doing intermittent fasting, which is a lot easier on Keto ).

I don’t travel often for work, but we just got a new contract where we might have to travel every couple of months out of state. And I was wondering what’s the best plan of attack to stay on Keto while traveling?

Since giving up sugar and carbs, it has obviously gotten a lot easier to go longer without eating. However, when traveling there is stress and fuzz of getting on a plane and so getting to a hotel, etc. and stress can make the brain go “go back to your crappy old eating habits and get crap out of the vending machine”.

I guess this is a long way of asking; does anyone have any experience traveling while on Keto? Any pro tips/advice will be greatly appreciated.

    Everything depends on where you will be going. Often you’ll just have to leave part of your meal uneaten. Definitely ask restaurants if they can modify to accommodate you - most will try. Occasionally there will be nothing for you. But I have always used bags of nuts as my calorie dense, long shelf life, satisfying emergency food to take with me everywhere.

    My biggest thing with traveling was being away from the easy setup I had created at home. With all my favorite keto foods easily on hand, electrolyte options ready to go, scale right there, etc. If you get too used to that, even eating out in your home town can be an adventure.

    Heyho Nice that a community is starting thank you for your thread start. I traveled a few Weeks trough Italy on Keto the country of Pasta and Pizza…

    My tips for eating in a restaurant go for steak or bun less burger, often they had in Italy a starter plate with cheese and some meat like salami and bacon or some cold thin meat peace’s forgot the name. I also can recommend mozzarella with tomato’s. If you need something on the go, cheese cubes also salami and nuts were a good snack.

    Go for it and just try it works with a little effort also on a trip.

    My best advice is to plan ahead (i.e. bring your own snacks).

    I’m on the road a lot lately. I pack up a small bag or cooler with cheese sticks, deli-cuts jerky, nuts, boiled eggs, avocado, protein shakes, sugar-free jello, fat-bombs (for times of fire indulgence)…Any combination of these is enough to make a meal or stave off hunger; otherwise, I follow the aforementioned restaurant advise of previous commenters.

      Almonds are great. I’ve also been eating a lot of walnuts lately – I didn’t used to be a big fan, but since starting keto I’ve really appreciated their Omega-3 profile, and they’ve actually grown on me. Also occasionally macadamia, hazelnuts, and a couple Brazil nuts. Nuts have a lot of calories but are great to fit in.
