And the screen looks fantastic. Some people here had me nervous and if you’ve been on the thread you’d think it was the end of the world and you’d have to instant RMA your device due to dead pixels.

Just wanted to add a positive note. My LE arrives pristine with no issues whatsoever.

Dead pixels are in the extreme minority, it’s just that you are going to hear about almost 100% of those cases. Same reason having cashier and store ratings on receipts is a terrible idea, because everyone who was upset will submit a bad rating, while very few who were happy will bother saying they were happy. “Misery loves company”.

I was surprised when I found out that mine had a BOE panel, but it’s common on the LE model, so. I switched to desktop mode and did a color test, everything seemed fine, but I feel like I should give it another lookover…

It still may be a minority but there’s already enough anecdotal evidence on here to suggest there’s some kind of QC control issue with the BOE panel vs the Samsung panel. I don’t think I’ve read one report of a dead pixel on a Samsung but they are already numerous with the BOE.

Whatever happens though don’t worry, Valve are a very pro-consumer company compared to the norm in the tech world and I’m confident they will make it right for anyone affected, if this does turn out to be a widespread problem I wouldn’t put it past them to offer screen replacements on all LE models down the line.

The amount of LE orders is seemingly way higher than any other model, I’d imagine, just like 512GB were the initial top seller at launch.

I’d imagine there’s a higher concentration of LE buyers in this sub vs overall. Would be interesting to take a poll ….

I’ve seen several reports of the Samsung screens having dead pixels, one thread a guy had 4 dead pixels on his 512GB OLED!

Of course there will be defective Samsung panels, no electronics manufacturer has a 0% failure rate. It’s undeniable from the small sample size we’ve seen so far though that it’s much more common to have an issue with a BOE panel, nothing definitive can be derived from this but there’s enough evidence that it warrants talking about.

I am sure there’s some truth to it. But I also see the same people posting in every Reddit post about their dead pixels.

I am sure it is an issue but how much more of an issue compared to Samsung, who knows.

I have two dead subpixels on mine, but Valve is super cool and I already initiated a return and purchased a 512GB model. I kind of miss the black body and want to avoid the BOE screen lottery altogether.

Add another to the data. LE with BOE, no dead or stuck pixels. Screen, buttons, triggers, etc are all in pristine working condition. I do sympathize with folks getting hit though. Had to exchange my current monitor twice and that entire process was obnoxious. Best of luck to you all.
