I’ve never had a screen protector on my Deck but recently I’ve been curious about getting the matte one. I’ve see some people say it dulls the screen and also softens it. Is this true? Are there certain brands that are better than others or are they all basically the same?

Had a couple matte protectors on other devices and they really made the display quite grainy. Afaik screen protectors mostly use a coating that grains the picture. Etched glass screen protectors are really expensive and hard to find (here in germany I only found one thats a UK import for 30€/piece, while others are like 2-5€/piece)

My etched oled has yet to arrive, but from what ive seen and read so far, etched glass doesnt have that grain effect.

I bought the jsaux glossy protector and the glare was annoying me so I bought the matte one and after using it for a while I decided that I prefer the glossy look because matte does look a bit more dull to me.

So when I got my oled, I put my extra glossy protector on it and I am very happy with it.

Some people are going to tell you there’s no difference. These people are lying.

Clarity will take a pretty noticeable hit, but the reduction in reflections is also pretty significant. If you’re pretty sensitive to the clarity of a given image, I’d say avoid it. If you’re the type that doesn’t really care, then it’ll be great for you. Completely depends on what you prioritize in your setup.

I’ve personally used both a sand blasted glass matte screen protector, and a regular clear glass one. I prefer the higher clarity, but a friend of mine highly prefers the reduced reflections, and also the paper like feel of the matte.

So in conclusion, it’s just different strokes for different folks. Give it a shot, and if you don’t like it, you can just take it off. If money is an issue, go with what your gut tells you. Either way, you still have an amazing handheld to play on.

    Have fun!

I could definitely tell the difference in clarity. Took a few days to really adjust but it’s worth it for me because I have a lot of light sources in my living room
