So glad I ordered a standard OLED model after hearing the dead pixel issues of the LE editions

Funny how the article phrases it as orders being stolen from Samsung as if they have the sole right to supply screens to Valve. And repeatedly mentioning that BOE is Chinese but never mentioning that Samsung is Korean, why does only one of them matter? It’s not like either of them is based in the US where the lawsuit is actually happening.

An article would be helpful if you want me to read what you’re reading. Because when I search for samsung oled stolen by chinese I get articles about this exact lawsuit as well as a leak for curved OLED tech. Nothing that would be relevant for small 800p OLED displays that don’t bend or fold or curve or anything like that.

South Korean Tech and Chinese Tech industries have vastly different morals and quality control. The Chinese pretty much stole the OLED technology, as they do in many fields. They don’t believe in intellectual property.

There are people in the West who don’t believe in intellectual property. Hell, this subreddit is full of people who emulate older games and technically disregard intellectual property, me included. There are big companies training AI models on data they don’t own, working in a grey area regarding intellectual property. And I bet if South Korea didn’t prosecute for theft like that (you’re right that it is theft, not arguing that btw), then Samsung would do the same. It’s just good for business to take every advantage they can, up to and including theft if permitted.

While it’s theft, there are so many shady things done by companies, from unfair competition all the way to use of slavery (in countries like China, yes, but also paid for by Western companies sadly), that I just plain don’t care that much about intellectual property rights. Maybe I should…

The website definitely has a heavy bias lmao. But it’s the first one I found reporting on the lawsuit.

The upvotes on this comment is a testament to how few people actually read the articles posted on reddit, lol.

BOE being Chinese is mentioned twice in this article, Samsung being Korean is not mentioned at all. In an article below it, BOE and Samsung are mentioned again, and once again, Samsung has no country mentioned while BOE has China. In the same paragraph, another company is mentioned explicitly as from China. They obviously only mention it for Chinese firms.

Or are you saying that the article doesn’t take a clear stance against BOE and for Samsung? Because in that case I’d have to assume it’s you who didn’t read it…

Given all the reported problems with the Boe panels, sounds like Samsung’s lawsuit would do the community a service

Am I the only one who got an LE with no dead pixels or something? So many comments talking about how LEs “more than likely have defects”. Wtf are you basing that on? The handful of posts on reddit?

Same, after reading all the posts about dead pixels. I rushed to test my display and couldn’t find anything wrong with it. Either I’m lucky, or the vocal minority has made it seem like most displays have issues.

I just checked mine and I have 3 dead green pixels. Almost in a perfect diagonal from the top left, middle, and bottom right of the screen.

If they’re green they’re stuck not dead dead pixels are black. Stuck pixels are normally green, blue, red, or yellow. You may have seen stuck pixels on your TV screen. You can google on solutions to get rid of a stuck pixel

Yes, the vocal minority is historically known to always be a good representation of reality, and definitely doesn’t hyperfocus on non-issues or blow things out of proportion.

I think they’re comparing the number of people with non-LE units saying their Samsung panel is flawless to the number of people with LE units saying their BOE panel has dead pixels.

Just reading the thread, it’s overwhelmingly negative for BOE. This isn’t for lack of non-LE examples, either.

This will partially be down to confirmation bias though.

All the posts seem to suggest only BOE panels have dead pixels, so only people with BOE panels are going to heavily scrutinize theirs.

People will check which panel they have, and if it’s Samsung the majority will just go “Phew, okay, I haven’t noticed anything yet either” and carry on. People with BOE will assume the worst and look at each individual sub-pixel.

You’re not wrong, I havent seen any Samsung dead pixel posts either. Just sick of how negative this sub has been the last few weeks. First it and still it’s the etched vs gloss nonsense and now it’s samsung vs BOE. It’s exhaustingly obnoxious.

To be fair though, faulty displays is a pretty big issue compared to the screen issue which is a non-issue. People are completely justified being upset at receiving faulty displays being put on only the most expensive model

If people are getting inferior screens when paying more for the LEs than of course expect law suits
