Basically the title. We always hear about how great Porsche, Honda, etc. are, but what are some brands that don’t get enough love?

Going to have to give it to Subaru, for a relatively small company they’re doing better than most brands when it comes to enthusiasts cars.

Regardless of what you think of its looks, the VB WRX is objectively better than the VA WRX in damn near every way, and it’s the only AWD performance car you can get with a stick for around $30k. And on top of that they sell the BRZ, the only lightweight, RWD, 2+2, manual coupe you can get for around 30k as well. And unlike Toyota, they can legitimately claim they built these cars.

Maybe it’s because I’m in a lot of car-related subs/communities, but between the BRZ and the Impreza, I’m not sure you can say Subaru don’t get recognition.

For their niche, they are arguably the only one in their market left after Mitsubishi dropped off the lot. Toyota has the new GR line but that’s about it.

go ahead and pay them on the back for making head gaskets a maintenance item. they’re 4 cylinder engine needs to be removed to perform The tune up every 60k miles. don’t forget about the internal oil loss when making hard right turns. they’re so good lately.

I almost bought a new WRX over my MK8 GTI. I actually love the styling. I think the engine is impressive. People are making near 400 whp with E85 tunes already. I went with the GTI because I’m more of a VW guy and it’s more familiar to me and it’s engine is just as capable, among some other little things.

I also looked at the GR86 but the oil starvation issues and RTV issues kinda turned me off of it. I think it’s a really cool car though.

      Never understood the hate.

My family has been driving Subarus since 1994, almost 30 years.

Zero breakdowns, zero head gasket repairs, zero bad transmissions, zero issues. Heck I’ve been driving modified STIs for 18 years myself… also no problems.

Mine has 408whp, doesn’t even burn oil, it’s a tank. Oh yeah and I’m not meticulous with maintenance, no AOS, no break-in, just beat on it.

I also have a Toyota, and both cars have been equally as reliable.

If you take care of them, like most cars, they perform well. I think the only 3 cars that perform well and can be used long term are Toyota, Subaru and Honda. The family has had a few Toyotas and only sold them because we were getting a new car and not because it broke down. I’ve had 2 Subarus. I still have one of them and I sold the other (to my great dismay) because I was in the military and never drove along with other complications with owning it, it didn’t make sense to keep it. I had a 600 awhp STI that never broke down. That’s partly because it was built for about 800 awhp but we played it safe. The other one is a wagon. The EJ series. Never blown a head gasket. Never sprung an oil leak. Never so much as blew a tire out. The worst I did was sit on a burnt out clutch for 30k miles. After a recent preventative repairs job, she’s ready for another 160k miles. I will always love Subaru. Even if I don’t really like the current models, the convenience, performance and reliability will keep me coming back. Plus, their dealerships have doggy treats. How can you hate a company that has doggy treats.

Idk. If they were really concerned about enthusiast cars they wouldn’t have killed the STI and would have put a turbo in the BRZ. Outside of those two cars their entire lineup looks just like every other manufacturer right now: different sized variants of the exact same crossover.

Plenty of manufacturers kill cars off, so what if they axe a single trim? That just undoes everything else they’re doing? I don’t get this mentality.

BRZ unfortunately has a lot of engine problems. The new WRX is a fun sporty sedan but it would be nice if they brought back a WRX version.

I’ve been getting more and not disappointed with Subaru these last few years. The brigadier are getting much bigger. Then, they went and Explorered the Forester.

Subaru’s popularity in my side of the alps is dying.

The WRX was an incredibly popular car but now you only see the old ones (2000s models) on the road and the European compact 4x4 took back their position with the 4x4 Panda and the new Dacia Duster.
